This project aimed to develop synergy across the two universities, via the Institute of Future Cities (IOFC) of CUHK and UoM’s cities@manchester network, to shape the future cities development research agenda, with a focus on the planning and regeneration of urban neighbourhoods against the wider process of rapid urban change in the global context. The project resulted in a special themed issue on ‘Understanding urban change in diverse contexts: experiences from Manchester and Hong Kong’ in Town Planning Review (Volume 89, Issue 5) in 2018.
