Research and Consultancy Project: Service on Providing Information on the Proposed Country Park Extension at North Lantau

Principal Investigator:

Ng, Sai Leung

Co-investigator(s):

Fung, Tung

Summary:
In the Territorial Development Strategy Review (1993), 14 potential sites were identified for possible designations as Country Parks or Special Areas. The present study is a joint venture between the Agriculture and Fisheries Department (SAR) and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The objective of the study is to assess one of these 14 potential sites, namely North Lantau Extension. The assessment involves three appraisals of the potential sites, covering conservation, landscape and recreation. In other words, these reports would identify whether the selected sites are necessary to be conserved in terms of ecology and culture; whether the quality of the scenery is high or low in these locations; and whether they can accommodate passive outdoor recreation compatible with conservation. These appraisals will determine the suitability of the potential sites for country park designation.
