Geography of Surplus Population in China in 1990s

Summary:
China's huge and still expanding population imposes a great challenge to development and social stability. Increasing number of ”„floating population”¦ from rural areas and rising unemployment in urban areas have become a great concern to the government, public and researchers in various disciplines. This project will assess the issue from geographical perspective in terms of labour supply and labour demand in various regions of the country. The role of economic reform, migration and employment policies will be examined to explore the strategies of solving the surplus population problem in China.
