Summary:
China's huge and still expanding population imposes a great challenge
to development and social stability. Increasing number of ”„floating
population”¦ from rural areas and rising unemployment in urban areas
have become a great concern to the government, public and researchers
in various disciplines. This project will assess the issue from
geographical perspective in terms of labour supply and labour demand
in various regions of the country. The role of economic reform,
migration and employment policies will be examined to explore the
strategies of solving the surplus population problem in China.
