Advanced Study Institute on Neural and Evolutionary Computations for Spatial Data Analysis

Principal Investigator:

Leung, Yee

Co-investigator(s):

Leung, Kwong Sak

Summary:
The ASI (Advanced Study Institute) deals with the key issues of two fast evolving but related paradigms for the scientific investigation of complexity and non-linear dynamics, particularly in spatial data analysis. The past, present, and future of neural and evolutionary computations will be critically examined in the general context by two internationally renowned scholars of the fields. Similar analyses will be made by leading spatial scientists in the context of spatial data analysis.

Scientific investigations of the ASI will cover in particular the classification of remotely sensed images, explorative spatial data analysis, mining of spatial structures embedded in very large geographical information system, and modeling of spatial processes by neural and evolutionary computations.

The ASI will produce a concrete plan for the dissemination of and further investigation in the development and applications of neural and evolutionary models in spatial data analysis, a promising direction of scientific investigation in this information and knowledge age.
